Santos’ Spending Spree – OnlyFans, Botox And Sephora Bought Allegedly On Campaign Dimes

On Thursday, November 16, Republican congressman George Santos was been named in a House Ethics Committee review as having misappropriated campaign funding for personal use.
The Ethics Committee has sent their findings and evidence through to the Justice Department for an investigation while the freshman representative denies claims that the report holds any verity.
If Being Accessorised And Moisturised Is A Crime, Then I Guess George Santos Is Guilty
The report claims to have “overwhelming evidence” that Mr Santos directed funds meant for campaigning to his personal accounts where purchases were made that could not be claimed as professional.
The House Ethics Committee stated that USD 2,281 (AUD 3,526) was spent at resorts in Atlantic City and USD 1,400 spent at a skin spa for what one spreadsheet described as “Botox”. Further into the report, it is alleged that at least USD 200,000 that was transferred from a Florida-based company, RedStone Strategies LLC, to Santos’ personal bank accounts.
Now here we arrive at the more salacious paper trail. According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Santos used some of that money to pay down credit card bills, make a USD 4,128 purchase at high-end retailer Hermes, and for smaller purchases at OnlyFans, an adult content website, Sephora and meals and parking.
Naturally, the internet has done what it does best in the face of political scandal; it answered with levity. Memes have already begun springing up making fun of the alleged purchases that Mr Santos made with misappropriated funds. One Twitter user says, “We wanted gay representation in congress. We got gay representation in congress. Suddenly, you don’t want gay representation in congress? Sickening.”
And the clowning doesn’t end there, here are our faves:
In one of his responses following the release of the report, Santos says: “It is a disgusting politicised smear that shows the depths of how low our federal government has sunk… I will remain steadfast in fighting for my rights and for defending my name in the face of adversity. I am humbled yet again and reminded that I am human and I have flaws, but I will not stand by as I am stoned by those who have flaws themselves. I will continue on my mission to serve my constituents up until I am allowed. I will however NOT be seeking re-election for a second term in 2024 as my family deserves better than to be under the gun from the press all the time.”
