Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, And Madonna Unite For A Legendary Collaboration In “Deadpool & Wolverine”
Ryan Reynolds has revealed the extraordinary lengths he went to get Madonna’s blessing to use her 1989 hit song, Like A Prayer, in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine movie. In a joint SiriusXM interview with Andy Cohen, Reynolds, along with co-star Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy, shared the story of their personal visit to the Queen Of Pop, reports Vanity Fair.
“Madonna Doesn’t Just License the Song”
Reynolds emphasised the rarity of Madonna licensing her music, especially Like A Prayer. “It was a huge ask,” he said, explaining that they had to show her exactly where, when, and why the song would be used in the film.
Levy described the experience as “meeting royalty,” while Reynolds joked about his uncertainty in addressing the iconic singer. “Like, ‘Hello Madonna, I’m Ryan,'” he quipped.
The Queen’s Seal of Approval
Their efforts paid off, as Madonna not only granted permission to use the song but also provided valuable input for the sequence. “She gave a great note,” Reynolds revealed. “She watched it, and I’m not kidding, [she said], ‘You need to do this.’ And damn it, if she wasn’t like spot on.”
Like A Prayer has rarely been licensed since its controversial debut in a Pepsi commercial and Madonna’s own music video, which featured burning crosses, a statue of a black Jesus coming to life and weeping tears, and Madonna performing with a gospel choir.
With Madonna’s blessing and creative input, fans can look forward to an unforgettable moment in Deadpool & Wolverine when the iconic song hits the screen.
