Romeo Beckham’s Acting Debut Is A Gay Tennis Romance Called “Forty Love”

The Beckham kids keep finding new ways to stay famous, and Romeo just picked the most interesting one yet. The 23-year-old model, son of David and Victoria Beckham, is making his acting debut in Forty Love, a queer tennis romance from French fashion photographer Pierre-Ange Carlotti.

Sacha Gallo is a rising tennis star who has trained for years under his father, chasing a major title in Paris. Then a charismatic new rival turns up and throws the whole plan off. Beckham plays the rival. Per the official synopsis, Sacha “faces an opponent of an entirely different nature: love.”

A debut with serious company

For a first acting job, Romeo has not landed in the minor leagues. The cast includes Paul Kircher, Guillaume Canet and Benjamin Voisin, with French screen legend Catherine Deneuve turning up, too.

Carlotti is directing his first feature, working from a script he co-wrote with Gaëlle Macé, and the soundtrack is being handled by 070 Shake and Johan Lenox. Studiocanal releases the film in French cinemas on 25 November.

If you loved Challengers, sit down

We have been here before, and we were not mad about it. The sweaty, charged, who-wants-who energy of Challengers may have inspired this stylish French production about two men circling each other across a net. We hope it delivers more than Challengers, though, which left many of us wondering what that film was really about.

The title is a tennis joke, by the way. Forty-love is the score when one player sits a single point from taking the game, which feels about right for a story where the real opponent is feelings.

Can a model with no acting credits pull off a leading romantic role? Genuinely, no idea. Growing up a Beckham means performing under a camera your whole life, though, and he has the modelling and athletic background to look the part. The serve is in.

We will see how he follows through on 25 November.
