Richard Simmons’ Last Words: A Fabulous Farewell To A Fitness Icon
“Kindness Lives in All of Us”
Richard Simmons, the beloved fitness guru, left a lasting impact on the world, not just through his energetic workouts but also through his words of wisdom. On a sunny Saturday, friends, family, and fans gathered at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans for a heartfelt Celebration Of Life ceremony.
Simmons passed away in July, just a day after celebrating his 76th birthday. The Los Angeles County Coroner reported that he died from complications following a fall, with heart disease also playing a role.
During the service, Simmons’ brother Lenny shared a touching detail: Richard was buried in his iconic fitness gear beneath his formal burial clothes. “Just like Clark Kent,” Lenny said, “underneath his beautiful things, he’s wearing a tank top and shorts.” This choice reflected their belief that Simmons would continue inspiring others in the afterlife.
“Never Give Up!”
Attendees wore brightly coloured workout gear reminiscent of Simmons’ vibrant style. After the service, fans paraded through the French Quarter, ensuring Simmons received a spirited New Orleans farewell. On social media, Richard’s official accounts shared photos from the event and highlighted some of his most memorable quotes.
Richard never saw himself as a celebrity or icon; he called himself a “motivator,” dedicated to helping others realise their potential. His words continue to inspire:
- “Kindness lives in all of us. You just have to let it out.”
- “Know your worth, watch your portions, and move your buns!”
- “Remember, you are worth more than all the pearls in the ocean, all the rainbows in the sky, and all the diamonds at Tiffany’s.”
- “No one is perfect. Absolutely no one. Like precious stones, we have a few flaws, but why focus on that?”
- “Count your blessings. You are one of a kind. There’s no one in the world like you. You are amazing!”
- “Never give up!”
“When asked what he wanted to be remembered for,” Lenny shared, “Richard replied, ‘He made me laugh, he made me think, and he made me sweat.’”
