Qatar Has Atrocious LGBTQIA+ Rights, But… At Least The World Cup Has Heaps Of Man-Candy

Controversy has surrounded FIFA’s decision to host the World Cup 2022 in Qatar. Many have pointed out the nation’s sordid history of anti-LGBTQIA+ laws, including Peter Tatchell, who was briefly arrested there while protesting.

Regardless, the World Cup is in full swing, and if there’s one thing that queer fans can appreciate, it’s the amount of support that fans and teams have been attempting to demonstrate.

MORROCAN MAN-CANDY AND MARIO FERRI

The World Cup is typically an event that football fans eagerly await, but this year FIFA has faced multiple accusations that they’re perpetuating homophobia. One recent example is the organisation warning players to not wear any One Love armbands in support of LGBTQIA+ rights, reports Junkee.

FIFA’s ban on the armbands reportedly comes from the governing body wanting their players to avoid sanctions from Qatari officials. But this hasn’t stopped some fans from showing their support. One such fan is Mario Ferri, who ran out onto the pitch during the match between Portugal and Uruguay, reports CBS Sports.

Ferri carried a rainbow Pride flag while wearing a shirt that says, “Save Ukraine” and “Respect for Iranian women”. Aside from being a clear supporter of LGBTQIA+ rights, Ferri is a professional soccer player who has been on a roll, pitch invading matches to bring attention to social justice issues. He has volunteered in Ukraine, spoken out against FIFA’s ban, and shown up to speak for women in Iran, reports CBS Sports.

An unintended side-effect of the World Cup getting so much attention this year is the amount of men who are being thirsted after. Morocco’s national team has been performing very well and some hope this underdog team even has a chance of winning. It doesn’t hurt that the players are all very attractive.
