DNA Magazine | #300 – 25 Year Anniversary

This month is a milestone for DNA. We hit our #300th issue and celebrate our 25th anniversary. That’s 12 issues a year for the last 25 years, a lot of beautiful photography of sexy men, some hilarious interviews with pop stars and our Straight Mates, a lot of politics and in-depth features on sex, gay male culture, history, physical and mental health, and some heartfelt letters (and some horny ones) from readers in Burnttoast.

So, we look back fondly. Long-time contributors Marc Andrews (music, features, travel) and Matthew Myers (theatre, Straight Mate, The Last Word) tell us their DNA stories and reveal juicy details that haven’t always made it to the page. And we dig out some of the wild and wacky things our famous interviewees have told us over the years.

Photographer Christian Scott has shot over 30 covers for DNA, and he takes us behind-the-scenes to explain what goes into a DNA cover shoot and share some of the anecdotes from his sessions with various memorable models.

Founding Editor Andrew Creagh’s feature The Male Body Is Still Taboo asks why the male body is so heavily censored, compared to the female body, in modern media and art and explains why publications like DNA are such an important part of a culture that includes gay, bi, transmen and other same-sex attracted men.

Another major feature this month is Jonathan Berry. He’s a man of many firsts. He currently holds the Mr Universe title and, in doing so, he’s the first Australian man, the first Indigenous person, and the first openly queer man to be Mr Universe. In a wide-ranging interview, he discusses overcoming his childhood trauma and the ambitious plans he has for his future. We’ve also shot him in a very sexy way!

In Come Together, we discover why gay saunas and bathhouses are making a comeback – and it’s all good, clean fun! We head to Ireland for a spot of Greenness Envy! Our travel feature will whet your appetite for those stunning Celtic men,
