Pedro Pascal Considered As Replacement For Joaquin Phoenix In Controversial Detective Film
Following Joaquin Phoenix’s shocking exit from Todd Haynes’ untitled gay detective movie, which we reported on previously, rumours have been swirling about who might replace the Joker star in the controversial role. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pedro Pascal’s name has been “bandied about” as a potential substitute for Phoenix.
However, sources suggest that it’s doubtful the beloved Mandalorian actor will take on the part, as he is currently tied up with filming commitments for Fantastic Four and the third season of The Mandalorian. Additionally, a talent rep pointed out that casting Pascal alongside the already-signed Danny Ramirez would be nonsensical, stating, “Having two Latinos in the roles doesn’t make a lot of sense”.
As we previously reported, Phoenix abruptly left the project mere days before production was set to begin in Mexico, leaving the film’s future in jeopardy. Deadline now reports that the production is “completely dead” and not simply paused, with no plans to recast Phoenix’s role.
Director Haynes had previously described the film as a love story between two men set in the 1930s, featuring explicit sexual content that “challenges you with the sexual relationship between these two men”. Despite the buzz surrounding a potential replacement for Phoenix, it appears that this provocative project may never see the light of day.
