Paul Mescal’s Thirst-Worthy Transformation Makes “Gladiator II” Too Hot To Handle
Paul Mescal gained 18 pounds of pure muscle for his role as Lucius Verus in Gladiator II. The Irish actor, known for his roles in Normal People, Aftersun, and the recent gay romance All Of Us Strangers, transformed his body through intense training and strict meal plans.

At a New York screening, Mescal revealed details about his fitness journey. “It’s not hard work. That’s just people at the top of their game telling you what to do,” he said. His routine included pre-made meals and personal training sessions.

Mescal made it clear he wasn’t interested in just looking good. “This guy’s got to fight and be a beast,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. He wanted his character to look real, not like the typical movie muscle man we often see on screen.

The actor isn’t slowing down. He’s set to play William Shakespeare in Hamnet, directed by Chloé Zhao. He’s also starring with Josh O’Connor in The History Of Sound, coming to Cannes in 2025. Plus, he’s signed up for Richard Linklater’s 20-year project, Merrily We Roll Along.
