“Overcompensating” Gave Us A New Obsession And His Name Is Austin Lindsay
Overcompensating on Prime Video isn’t short on chaos, charm, or skin. But one name keeps coming up again and again: Austin Lindsay. And no, it’s not just because he’s frequently naked.
The comedy series, led by Benny Drama (Benito Skinner), has exploded online for its wild storylines and painfully familiar roommate situations. But it’s Austin Lindsay, in his debut role as Trey, who’s quietly stealing the show, clothes optional.
Austin Lindsay— the Actor, Director , and Total Scene-Stealer
Born in North Bay, Ontario, and just 24 years old, Lindsay is new to acting but not new to creating. He recently graduated from York University with a BFA in Cinematography and Film Production, and within months landed his first major screen role. Talk about timing.
Before Overcompensating, Lindsay was behind the camera more than in front of it. His 2019 short Querencia picked up nominations at festivals in Canada and Los Angeles, and even took home an Award of Distinction at the Canada Shorts Film Festival. He’s also written and directed several other projects, including Pool Sharks and Andre and The Kid. The resume might be short, but the work speaks for itself.
Why Is Everyone Obsessed?
It’s not just the nudity. Although yes, that’s been discussed at length online. Fans on X (formerly Twitter) have been calling Overcompensating a “10/10” and begging for a second season. The show currently sits at 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, so clearly the hype has some backing.
But what really makes Lindsay stand out is his confidence on screen. He brings a relaxed, slightly chaotic energy to Trey that just works. He’s funny, unbothered, and completely believable — even in the most unhinged scenes.

Is This the Start of Something Bigger?
Probably. Lindsay isn’t the kind of actor who fades into the background. Even if Overcompensating is his first major role, his performance feels like someone who’s been doing this for years. And with his directing and writing background, he’s likely to stick around longer than just one breakout moment.
At DNA, we’re keeping a close eye on what Austin does next, both on screen and off. While his role might be loud, Lindsay’s career is quietly building into something pretty serious.
