Out Soccer Star Josh Cavallo To Guest Judge On “RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under”
Josh Cavallo announced that he will be a judge on the upcoming season of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under. He expressed his excitement on Instagram about being a guest on the show, which features contestants from Australia and New Zealand. The new season, which includes returning judges Michelle Visage and Rhys Nicolson, is set to premiere on Friday, July 28.
We love to see it!
Cavallo is an openly gay Australian soccer player for Adelaide United and is considered to be the first A-League player to come out while still in the league. “Start your engines,” Cavallo writes on Instagram. “As the first openly gay male professional football player, embracing your authentic self means freedom but for so many of the queer community this isn’t as easy as you think.”
Cavallo has been an advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights since his public coming out in October 2021. He has spoken out against FIFA’s decision to ban OneLove armbands at the Qatar World Cup in 2022 and has campaigned against homophobia in professional sports leagues.
Cavallo says he is thrilled to be a guest star on Drag Race Down Under and enthuses that the series helps people feel safe to explore their real selves. “RuPaul’s Drag Race is important for everyone to celebrate walking in your own shoes and showing the world the real you in your journey,” he says.
