Orville Peck Steps Into Broadway Spotlight As “Cabaret” Emcee. Will He Go Maskless?
Orville Peck, the mysterious voice behind Dead Of Night and a trailblazer in country music, is stepping into the world of Broadway. Starting Monday, 31 March, the singer will take centre stage as the Emcee in the iconic musical Cabaret at the KitKat Club. It’s a 16-week run at New York’s August Wilson Theatre, and fans are already buzzing about what’s to come.
“The Emcee has been my dream role since I was a teenager,” he told Deadline. “The nature of the character allows for complete freedom of individual expression. That kind of freedom is every actor’s dream.”
While many know Peck as the masked cowboy crooner, fewer might realise he started out in the theatre. Before his 2019 breakout album Pony, Peck was a trained actor, sharpening his craft at the prestigious London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He even had a stint on London’s West End in Peter Pan Goes Wrong.
Peck reflected on how his theatre roots shaped his journey: “I grew up in the theatre. I was a working actor and a dancer for many years before I started making music. I did the hustle and the struggle for a long time, trying to make things happen for myself. It taught me so much about who I am as a performer and a person, so it feels very full circle to be making a return to it at this point in my career.”
Who’s Joining Him on Stage?
Peck isn’t stepping into the KitKat Club alone. He’ll join Eva Noblezada (Hadestown), who is set to play Sally Bowles. The pair will replace Adam Lambert and Auli‘i Cravalho, who take their final bows on 29 March. With these new stars taking over, it’s clear the production is gearing up for a fresh, unforgettable twist.
To Mask Or Not To Mask
It’s the question everyone’s asking – will Orville Peck perform as the Emcee with or without his signature mask? The country artist, whose fringed face coverings are part of his mystique, isn’t spilling all the tea just yet. When pressed by Variety, he teased: “People will have to buy a ticket to find out.”
If you’ve been waiting for a reason to visit Broadway, this is it. Orville Peck, an unmissable role, a theatre classic. What more could you ask for?
Cabaret at the KitKat Club opens with Orville Peck and Eva Noblezada on 31 March 2025. Secure your seats now because this is a moment you won’t want to miss.
