Adult content creators have filed lawsuits against the platform OnlyFans alleging that the site bribed Meta to have their accounts put on anti-terrorism watch lists when they began frequenting other platforms, reports New York Post.

PORNO TERRORISM

TikTok, Twitter and OnlyFans popularity boomed during the pandemic when people had more time on their hands and others needed to supplement their incomes with content creation. Traffic grew exponentially. OnlyFans provides a subscription-based service where creators hide their content behind paywalls that fans can access for a fee. The platform saw a boom in users in 2020 with a jump to 85 million users from 7.5 million the previous year. They became known specifically for the adult-rated content that flows freely there, reports The Guardian.

Lawsuits are now alleging that OnlyFans colluded with Meta to have over 21,000 accounts marked on the Global Internet Forum To Counter Terrorism (GIFCT), a non-profit co-founded by Meta, Twitter, Microsoft, and YouTube, reports Queerty.

Some adult content creators reported earning significant profits from their work and hence made OnlyFans their primary source of income. If they were shadowbanned from multiple platforms and unable to promote their content it would have devastating impacts on their financial well-being.

Alana Evans is one user who spoke with New York Post about her experience with OnlyFans. “I was angry because it affected my income when my social media traffic dropped significantly,” she says.

In response to the allegations, OnlyFans released a statement that says, “We are aware that these cases have been filed. We are not aware of any evidence which supports these allegations. The alleged participants have all publicly stated that these cases have no merit.” Similarly, Meta and the GIFCT claimed the allegations to be without merit.
