“I had to get on the soup diet” – Apollo’s weight loss journey and Mr Bond’s comforting advice.

As Luca Guadagnino’s adaptation of William S Burroughs’ novel Queer hit theatres yesterday, September 3, 2024, fans are buzzing about Omar Apollo’s acting debut alongside Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey. The R&B star recently opened up about his experience shooting a steamy sex scene with the former 007, and the juicy details have left everyone wanting more.

In a new interview with Interview Magazine, Apollo and Starkey continued to dish on their time on set. The conversation took a spicy turn when Apollo revealed the lengths he went to prepare for his intimate moment with Craig.

“I was at 200 pounds because I’m 6’5″… but I got down to 181 when the movie came,” Apollo admitted. “I lost 20 pounds because I read in the script that my character had a flat brown stomach. I was like, ‘Damn, I’m actually not flat right now.'”

The singer found himself slurping on soup while touring with SZA to shed the extra pounds. “Luckily, I didn’t have that many lines,” he joked.

But it wasn’t just the physical transformation that had Apollo feeling the pressure. The rising star confessed to being nervous before filming the scene with Craig. In a touching moment, the seasoned actor shared some words of wisdom.

“I remember asking him, ‘How do you feel when the camera’s on?’ And he said, ‘To be honest, every time the camera’s on me, I’m terrified,'” Apollo recalled. “I thought that was beautiful. You have to be vulnerable. You have to be open to these emotions. It was such an honest answer.”

As we previously reported, Queer follows the story of William Lee (Craig), an American expatriate living in 1940s Mexico City who becomes infatuated with a younger man (Starkey). While Apollo’s specific role remains a mystery, fans can’t wait to see him share the screen with these Hollywood heavyweights.
