Omar Apollo and Daniel Craig Ignite The Screen In Luca Guadagnino’s Provocative New Film “Queer”
Omar Apollo announced he’s joining the cast of Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming movie, Queer. Known for exploring LGBTQIA+ themes in films like Call Me By Your Name and We Are Who We Are, Guadagnino is set to deliver another passionate, intense film.
Queer follows Lee (Daniel Craig) as he immerses himself in Mexico City’s American expatriate scene, seeking fulfillment through sexual encounters. Based on William S. Burrough’s 1985 novel, the story unfolds with self-deprecating black humor as Lee becomes consumed by his infatuation with Allerton (Drew Starkey), a discharged American Navy serviceman.
Apollo, whose album God Said No is out now, makes his big-screen debut in Queer. He joins an all-star cast including Jason Schwartzman, Henrique Zaga, Andres Duprat, Ariel Shulman, Drew Droege, and Colin Bates.
Guadagnino reassembles his Challengers team, with costume designer Jonathan Anderson, music composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, and cinematographer Sayombhu Mukdeeprom.
Filming for Queer spanned Rome, Italy and Quito, Ecuador in 2023, reportedly wrapping in June. Early buzz from Cannes Film Festival suggests Craig delivers one of his most captivating performances to date.
Queer is set to premiere later this year, with speculation pointing to a debut at the 2024 Venice Film Festival from 28 August to 7 September.
