Ok Taec-Yeon And Hayato Isomura To Star In Netflix’s New Heartfelt Drama “Soul Mate”
According to Pink News, Netflix is set to release a new drama series called Soul Mate. This live-action series stars K-Pop icon Ok Taec-yeon from 2PM and Japanese actor Hayato Isomura. The show explores a 10-year love story between two men.
Soul Mate, written and directed by Shunki Hashizume, follows the lives of Ryu Narutaki (Isomura) and Johan Hwang (Taec-yeon). Ryu, who leaves Japan behind, is saved by Johan, a boxer, in a foreign land. Their bond grows over time, spanning the cities of Berlin, Seoul and Tokyo.
Executive producer Dai Ota says that the series was born from a simple coffee chat with Hashizume. They wanted to tell a story about people from different cultures meeting and connecting in a foreign land. Ota believes the series, filled with life’s ups and downs, will touch viewers’ hearts.
Taec-yeon found the character of Johan Hwang intriguing. He shared that Johan’s inner struggles stayed with him long after reading the script. To prepare for the role, Taec-yeon lost weight and trained in boxing. He continues to train during filming to portray Johan authentically.
Isomura praised Taec-yeon, saying, “Working with Ok Taec-yeon has been inspiring; his charm draws me in more each day.” Filming in Japan, Korea, and Germany gives the series a global feel.
Director Hashizume added, “The time spent weaving this story with our lead actors, cast, and crew has been challenging but blissful. Everyone involved in this project is a soulmate.”
Soul Mate will be available on Netflix in 2025. The series promises to be a heartfelt exploration of love, connection, and the enduring power of the human spirit.
