Official Knock At The Cabin Trailer Has Dropped With Jonathan Groff And Ben Aldridge
The much-anticipated M Night Shyamlan film Knock At The Cabin features Jonathan Groff and Ben Aldridge as gay daddies with their daughter on a trip to a secluded cabin in the woods – it never works out well for the gays in horror movies, nor those who travel to cabins in the woods.
A new official trailer has dropped, which reveals more about the enigmatic plot and somehow makes the movie feel more eerie than the last teaser.
MAKE THE CHOICE
Groff and Aldridge make an adorable couple with their adopted daughter in the trailer as they sing along to Boogie Shoes by KC And The Sunshine Band. As with any horror trailer, the peaceful scene is just the calm before the storm and things take an ominously dark turn quickly.
As we progress through the trailer, we see a group of armed assailants arrive at the cabin and watch as Groff and Aldridge make futile attempts to board up the house and secure their family against the unknown perpetrators.
This is a classic setup for a horror film and if it were by any other director one could be forgiven for calling this predictable. But with M Night Shyamalan helming this project, there are sure to be a few unexpected twists and turns that keep the audience guessing the whole way through.
One of the criminals poses a conundrum to the dads saying that the group are there to prevent the apocalypse and there’s a dire choice that the family needs to make. Typically, what makes the home invasion trope so scary is that the perpetrators’ motives are unknown. In this instance, knowing why the protagonists are being attacked and held captive does little to calm anxieties.
With the traditional horror film, there’s a final girl. One girl who, through sheer power of will and wit, manages to evade the killer to survive the night. Subverting this trope by having two gay dads in a wholesome family dynamic will be interesting to watch play out. Will everyone die in the end? Will there be a final gay? Only one way to find out!
Knock At The Cabin is out in cinemas February 2, 2023.
