NSW Wants Your Voice In Its First LGBTQIA+ Inclusion Strategy
The New South Wales Government is inviting the public to help create its first-ever, whole-of-government LGBTQIA+ Inclusion Strategy.
An online survey launched today, October 23, 2025, is open for everyone to share feedback on how the government can better support the safety, equality, and inclusion of LGBTQIA+ communities.
So, what is the strategy actually for?
This feedback will be used to build the new strategy, which will guide a coordinated government approach to recognise and address the barriers our communities face. The plan aims to progress specific actions for better, more inclusive outcomes and to celebrate the contributions of LGBTQIA+ people to the state.
There are two main ways to share your thoughts.
The primary survey is open to all NSW residents aged 18 and over. This includes members of the LGBTQIA+ community as well as their family, friends, colleagues, and allies.
Separately, the government is also seeking Expressions of Interest, or EOIs, for people to join specific roundtable discussions. These two-hour, facilitated talks are specifically for people who identify as LGBTQIA+ to share their lived experiences. These sessions will run from November, will be held both in-person and online, and will include up to 15 participants each.
Your voice will guide “meaningful change”.
The information gathered from both the survey and the roundtables is intended to inform legal and policy reform, strengthen safety, and improve service delivery.
LGBTIQA+ Advisory Council Co-Chair, Adjunct Professor Justin Koonin, said the strategy must be built on real experiences. “The insights shared during roundtable discussions will be instrumental in ensuring the LGBTIQA+ Inclusion Strategy can guide meaningful change,” Koonin said.
Co-Chair Robyn Kennedy added that this is a key moment for the community to be heard.
“This is a landmark opportunity for LGBTIQA+ people to have their voices heard and help shape a strategy that will promote inclusion and equity across NSW,” Kennedy said. “We’re encouraging everyone to take part so the strategy we develop truly reflect the experiences and needs of diverse communities across NSW.”
How to have your say before the deadline…
This initiative follows other recent government actions, including a formal apology for historical convictions under discriminatory laws and endorsing recommendations from the Special Commission of Inquiry into LGBTIQ hate crimes.
The final NSW LGBTIQA+ Inclusion Strategy is expected to be released in 2026.
To participate, you have until December 10, 2025. You can visit HERE to take the survey or submit an Expression of Interest for the roundtables.
