Former weatherman Erick Adame was fired in September 2022 after a scandal broke involving his private “sexcamming” sessions. Nude screenshots of Adame were sent to his workplace and his family resulting in his termination from NY1 Spectrum News.

A full year has passed since Erick Adame was let go and he has given an interview with Ricky Cornish for Advocate about his experience and what it has been like living in the wake of the scandal.

Erick Adame tells all

In the emotional interview, Adame breaks down discussing having to leave NY1 Spectrum News. He speaks about working there for 15 years and feeling like his coworkers were his family. “I didn’t get to say goodbye to any of them. I worked there for 15 years; I grew up with them,” he recounts through tears. “I didn’t get to say goodbye and I think that’s the crappiest part of all of this; not getting to say goodbye to these people who I loved working with.”

Adame also provided unheard details about the night he was in the cam session that got leaked. According to Advocate, he revealed his name, occupation, and full address to the strangers watching him. He also said, “It’d be hot if my boss saw me. I would love my boss to f*** me on camera.”

Upon reflecting on this session, Adame speaks about having instant regrets. “What people don’t know, except for those that are close to me, is that afterward, I cried. I didn’t really understand why I did what I did. Sometimes sex is super complicated and you have this immediate regret. I literally cried because I felt the really high risk of what I had done.”

When speaking about what it’s been like for him in the months following the scandal, Adame says he hasn’t been able to find another job at a news station. He cites the incident as being an elephant in the room during any interview he gets. Despite this, he says the support from unexpected places has given him hope. Currently, Adame works as a host at a New York restaurant and has launched his own subscriber-based meteorology platform.

“I haven’t landed a job yet, but I’ve had some really great conversations and they’ve been in the most surprising places — several stations in the deep South,” he says. “That gives me hope that the right position will come along and someone’s going to give me that second chance that I’ve been asking for.”
