Nicholas Galitzine Beats Zac Efron To Play He-Man In “Masters Of The Universe”

Nicholas Galitzine in Mary And George (Sky Studios) and He-Man (DC Comics)

Nicholas Galitzine, the star of Mary And George and Red, White And Royal Blue has landed the role as He-Man in Amazon’s upcoming live-action Masters Of The Universe movie. The film will be directed by Travis Knight, who will work from a script by Chris Butler.

From ‘The Idea Of You’ to Eternia

Galitzine will play Prince Adam of Eternia, who transforms into the mighty He-Man using his Power Sword. As He-Man, he gains superhuman strength and abilities, which he uses to protect his home planet and the legendary Castle Grayskull.

Masters Of The Universe is a beloved franchise that began in 1982 with a line of action figures from Mattel and became a DC Comics title. In 1983, it was adapted into the popular animated series He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe. The film has had a long journey in Hollywood, moving from studio to studio, with various filmmakers and actors attached along the way.

Galitzine has a strong connection with Amazon, having starred in several of their projects. Before The Idea Of You, he appeared in the young adult adaptation Red, White, And Royal Blue, which is getting a sequel, and the movie musical Cinderella alongside Camila Cabello.

There were rumours that Zac Efron was in the running to play He-Man, but these reports have been refuted. Galitzine’s casting puts an end to the speculation and solidifies the direction of the project.

The movie is set for a global theatrical release on June 5, 2026, and will be produced by Mattel Films’ Robbie Brenner and Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch.
