Aussie actor Murray Bartlett was the star of HBO’s series The White Lotus as an eccentric, gay hotel manager at an exclusive Hawaiian resort. This portrayal has won Bartlett his first Primetime Emmy Award at the 74th Awards Ceremony where he thanked show creator Mike White and his mother, reports Deadline.

AND THE EMMY GOES TO…

Bartlett was best known for his previous roles in Looking and Tales Of The City. The White Lotus was the most recent project and perhaps his most memorable. In his role as Armond, the manager of the White Lotus Hotel, Bartlett shows off his acting chops by playing a complex character who is at once accomodating yet deceitful, and welcoming but hostile.

Most famously, Bartlett is remembered for the iconic scene with Lukas Gage in which he tosses Gage’s salad before being caught by one of the guests. Naturally, the internet was hooked.

Part of what made The White Lotus so engaging was the tension and drama that slowly bubbled to the surface as the series unfolded. One of Bartlett’s infamous scenes involved him taking vengeful action against a guest. Armond takes the luggage of said guest and quite indelicately defecates into it before packing it up and sending him home with it.

Bartlett won in the category for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie where he took the stage to give thanks to his support system, reports Deadline. “I just want to thank my mum all the way home in Australia for giving me the most wonderful foundation of unconditional love,” he says. “And for inspiring me to believe that we can all do that for each other. So, thank you, Mum.”
