Matt Bomer Filmed “Outcome” In The Tiniest Yellow Shorts And Apple TV Cut Every Single Frame

Matt Bomer in tiny yellow shorts on a Malibu beach. That was the promise. The internet saw the set photos back in 2024, collectively lost its mind, and has been counting down the days ever since. Well, Outcome dropped on Apple TV on 10 April 2026, and those shorts are nowhere to be found.

The good news? Bomer knows exactly what we want.

“I’m going to date myself when I say this, but if ever a movie needed DVD extras, it is this one,” Bomer told Out magazine at the film’s world premiere at AMC Lincoln Square Theatre. “There is a whole movie of Cameron Diaz and I on the cutting room floor. There’s yellow shorts, there’s moments on the beach, there’s things… it’s out there.”

So the footage exists. Apple, if you’re reading this, you know what to do.

What Outcome is actually about

Directed by Jonah Hill, Outcome is a dark comedy following Reef Hawk (Keanu Reeves), a beloved Hollywood star whose career is threatened when an anonymous blackmailer surfaces with a video that could destroy everything. With help from his two lifelong best friends, Xander (Bomer) and Kyle (Cameron Diaz), plus his fast-talking crisis lawyer, Ira (Hill), Reef tries to track down whoever is behind the threat by making amends with everyone he’s ever wronged.

The cast is stacked. Martin Scorsese, Laverne Cox, Susan Lucci, David Spade, Kaia Gerber, and Roy Wood Jr. all show up. It’s a lot of star power for what is essentially a story about friendship, loyalty, and whether fame is worth the things you lose along the way.

Bomer on playing Xander

Bomer described his character with genuine warmth. “We should all be so lucky to have a friend during adolescence who supports you unconditionally and insists that you be your authentic self,” he said.

Much of the film was improvised under Hill’s direction. “We did what was written once and then a lot of it was improvised or cued by Jonah,” Bomer explained. “Once we kind of understood what each character was bringing to the table, the rhythms, the dynamics that were at play, then we could just have a free-for-all within those parameters.”

On working alongside Reeves and Diaz, he was characteristically gracious: “It’s a testament to what wonderful actors Keanu and Cameron are that you’re somehow able to forget that they’re absolute icons and just jump into a scene and act with them.”

About those shorts, though

The yellow shorts saga started in May 2024, when paparazzi shots from Malibu showed Bomer filming beach scenes shirtless in the tightest, brightest pair of shorts imaginable. The photos broke the internet. Fans waited nearly two years to see the scene on screen, and the fact that it didn’t make the cut has been its own kind of cultural event.

We’d like to formally petition Apple TV to release the deleted scenes. For archival purposes, obviously.

The film itself is worth a watch regardless, but honestly, we won’t rest until those beach scenes see the light of day. Apple, the people have spoken.
