Spanish actor and singer Manu Ríos is turning up the heat in Netflix’s latest drama, Breathless (Respira). Set in Valencia, Spain, this is Netflix’s first hospital drama, and it’s already causing a stir.
Breathless is by Carlos Montero, the creator of Elite, the show that made Manu famous. It’s an eight-episode series that dives deep into the intense lives of a hospital’s medical team. The show promises drama, stress, and plenty of steamy moments.
Meet the Team at Joaquín Sorolla Hospital
At the heart of the series is Dr Jéssica Donoso, Dr Biel de Felipe (played by Ríos), Dr Pilar Amaro, Dr Néstor Moa, and the hospital director, Lluis. These doctors are central to treating a serious illness affecting Patricia Segura, the president of the Valencian community, played by Najwa Nimri.
As work pressures mount, the hospital team faces breaking points. The trailer is packed with heart-racing moments, including a steamy kiss and some very revealing scenes. It’s safe to say, this series isn’t just about medical emergencies.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ríos shared his thoughts on the role: “Just getting into the mind-set of a resident and being in a hospital is really, really tough. People are going to think about the importance of doctors and how hard they work every day. We’re going to give visibility to important stuff, and the cast is amazing.”
Ríos, known for his role as Patrick Blanco in Élite and his appearance in Strange Way Of Life alongside Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal, has fans buzzing. One fan tweeted, “More Manu in a medical soap from the creator of Elite? Yes please.” Another added, “I’d watch Blanca Suárez and Manu Ríos in anything. Can’t wait for Breathless.”
Breathless is set to premiere on Netflix on 30 August. Get ready for a drama-filled ride with Manu Ríos and an incredible cast.
