Meet Sweden’s World Cup Hearttrob, Lucas Bergvall
Lucas Bergvall, the 20-year-old Swedish midfielder currently playing in the World Cup, has gone viral with fans crowning him the “Swedish twink” and the “World Cup It Boy”.
The blonde hair and the highlight reels did their part. So did the football.
A footballer first
Strip away the thirst edits and there is a real talent here. Bergvall was born in Stockholm in 2006 and grew up in a football family. Tottenham Hotspur signed him from Djurgården on his 18th birthday in 2024, for a reported 8.5 million pounds.
In his first season in England he made 45 appearances, helped Spurs win the UEFA Europa League, and was voted the club’s supporters’ player of the season. Not bad for a teenager who still gets mistaken for the youngest lad in the room.
A record at the World Cup
Then came the tournament every kid dreams about. Sweden booked their place at the 2026 World Cup the hard way, beating Ukraine and then Poland in a March play-off settled by Viktor Gyökeres in the 88th minute.
Bergvall made the 26-man squad, and his debut against Tunisia put him in the record books. At 20 years and 132 days, he became the youngest Swedish player ever to appear at a World Cup.
So why has the internet adopted him?
Part of it is obvious. The hair, the unbothered calm on the ball, and a lower body that social media has chosen to appreciate at length. Part of it is timing, because a fresh face at a World Cup gets noticed fast.
We will also call it now: the guy everyone clicked on because he is cute looks like one of the midfielders Sweden builds the next decade around. Sometimes the internet picks a good one.
