Luca Guadagnino’s Upcoming Film “Queer” Promises A Star-Studded Cast and Daring Storyline
Acclaimed director Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name, Challengers) is set to bring William S Burroughs’ novel Queer to life on the big screen. The film will star Daniel Craig as an American expat living in Mexico City. Drew Starkey, known for his role in Outer Banks, will play a younger man who becomes the object of Craig’s character’s infatuation.
A Stellar Supporting Cast
Also in the cast are Lesley Manville from The Crown, Jason Schwartzman, and Henrique Zaga from The New Mutants. The ambitious indie project, set in Mexico City, was shot on location.
Queer, written between 1951 and 1953 but not published until 1985, is a semi-autobiographical story that follows Lee, who has fled to Mexico City after a drug bust in New Orleans. The novel explores the decadent and subversive world of American expatriates, discharged soldiers, and other marginalized characters in 1940s Mexico City. Guadagnino’s adaptation promises to capture the raw, self-deprecating humour of Burroughs’ work.
With a talented cast, an acclaimed director, and daring source material, Queer is shaping up to be a groundbreaking addition to LGBTQIA+ cinema.
