Early on Thursday, 21 August 2025, Lil Nas X was filmed walking along Ventura Boulevard wearing underwear and cowboy boots. In footage first published by TMZ, he appeared disoriented and at one point balanced a traffic cone on his head. Reports vary on the exact time, with some placing it around 4 a.m. and others closer to sunrise.

Multiple calls led officers from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) to Studio City. Police say they encountered the artist in the road and, after an alleged charge at officers, he was restrained and taken into custody.

Hospital visit and arrest status.

Before booking, officers directed paramedics to transport him to hospital for assessment due to a reported “possible overdose”. After evaluation, he was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanour battery for allegedly striking an officer and later booked into jail. Authorities have not released a medical diagnosis. His representatives have not issued a public statement at the time of writing.

What we know… and what we don’t.

The cause of the incident remains unclear. Coverage notes uncertainty over whether substance use or a mental health crisis played a role. Until officials or his team provide details, anything beyond what police and on-scene reporting state is speculation.

Public figures live under intense scrutiny. When an incident like this surfaces, it is easy to jump to conclusions or turn a person’s worst morning into content. We take a different approach. We focus on confirmed facts, we avoid pile-ons, and we remember that help medical or otherwise comes first.

Is this a stunt or a crisis? We do not know, and that is precisely why we wait for corroborated updates. If you or someone you know needs support related to substance use or mental health, local services and hotlines are available in most regions.
