Singer Lil Nas X has sent a message of support to his queer Arab fans in Saudi Arabia after his song Sun Goes Down hit the top of the charts in that country. Saudi Arabia is a traditionally conservative country that holds a staunch anti-LGBTQIA+ stance, and Nas’ words of encouragement have meant a lot to the queer community living there, reports QNews.

Queer solidarity heard around the world

The documented human rights abuses in Saudi Arabia include the oppression of LGBTQIA+ minorities and the active campaign against queerness from the governing body. Despite this, gay rapper Lil Nas X managed to find his song at the top of the Saudi iTunes chart, reports QNews.

In a tweet, Lil Nas X says, “To my gay fans from Saudi Arabia reading this, I hope this song is getting you through whatever you’re going through.” The message was sincere and earnest which is a far cry from Nas’ usual trolling online and has been received well by queer people around the world writing to express their gratitude.

Nas’ gesture has been praised by LGBTQIA+ supporters around the world, who have applauded the singer for using his platform to acknowledge fans from diverse backgrounds who experience danger daily due to ignorance and oppression.

The singer has been an outspoken advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community and his music videos all feature queer themes and imagery. Despite facing backlash and criticism from conservative groups and individuals, Lil Nas X has remained steadfast in his commitment to promoting acceptance and supporting his queer fans. His latest message to his Arab fans in Saudi Arabia is just the latest example of his dedication to the cause.
