Kiwi Rower Robbie Manson Bares All On OnlyFans To Fund Olympic Dreams
Robbie Manson, a 34-year-old New Zealand rower, has found an unconventional way to fund his Olympic dreams. As reported by Sportstar, Manson has turned to OnlyFans, a subscription-based platform often used for adult content, to boost his income.
“I get more than double what I would be on otherwise as an athlete,” Manson candidly shared. “I am making more from OnlyFans than I am from rowing at this stage.
“Any publicity is good publicity”
Manson, who competes in the men’s double sculls with Jordan Parry, decided to be open about his OnlyFans venture. “I thought, if I’m going to do it, you have to tell everyone, be really open,” he told Sportstar. “I think you need to feel that any publicity is good publicity.”
The Kiwi rower drew inspiration from Australian diver Matthew Mitchum, the first openly gay athlete to win Olympic gold at the Beijing Games. “The fact that I’m gay, I have the gay following and the audience already, and I’m slightly leaning into that,” Manson explained. “I wouldn’t say it’s for everyone, but for other athletes, there’s definitely an opportunity there.”
“Artistic nudes” behind the paywall
When asked about the content he shares on OnlyFans, Manson kept it vague. “Artistic nudes – I don’t want to say too much more than that,” he teased. “I think people need to subscribe if they want to know what’s exactly on there.”
In addition to the risqué photos, Manson provides updates on his life, training, and journey to the Olympics in the captions.
Rowing New Zealand supportive
While many athletes rely on personal sponsorships, sports like rowing often struggle to attract the same level of financial backing as more glamorous events. Funding from Rowing New Zealand covers Manson’s training costs, but he needed to find additional income sources.
Fortunately, Rowing New Zealand has been supportive of Manson’s OnlyFans endeavor. “The bosses, if you like, they’re aware that this is making a huge financial impact and helping me get to where I want to go,” he shared. “They understand that we’re not highly-funded as well. It’s great, I haven’t had any issues.”
Encouraging others to explore OnlyFans
Manson believes there is a market for everyone on OnlyFans, provided they have an existing audience and a unique selling point. “I wouldn’t say it’s for everyone, but I think I’ve just been very lucky to have the opportunity there and make the most of it,” he said, encouraging other athletes in similar situations to explore the platform’s potential.
