Kit Connor Proves He’s More Than Just A Teen Dream In “Warfare”
Many know Kit Connor as the lovable Nick Nelson from the hit series Heartstopper. But the actor is keen to show different sides of his craft. Connor recently discussed his move into grittier territory with the film Warfare, directed by Alex Garland. Speaking with Attitude magazine ahead of the film’s UK release, the 21-year-old actor opened up about the deliberate shift.
Why swap the halls of Truham Grammar for a war zone? For Connor, it boils down to artistic growth. “From an acting perspective, the goal is always to stretch yourself and do completely different things,” he explained. He acknowledged the beloved nature of his breakout role, noting Heartstopper is “really sweet and optimistic and lovely.”

Because of that, Connor stated, “it was nice to be able to do something that was… completely different.” He joins a stacked cast in Warfare, including Will Poulter, Joseph Quinn, Noah Centineo, Charles Melton, Michael Gandolfini, and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai.
While Heartstopper marked a significant step in his career as he became an adult, Connor revealed that Warfare offered a unique lesson in collaboration. “I learned a lot on Heartstopper,” he admitted, “But really, the team aspect was something I learned on Warfare.”

He elaborated on the intensity of the experience, saying, “I’ve never really had to work as a team – certainly not to the extent that we did on Warfare.” This suggests a demanding production that required deep reliance among the actors.
Beyond the action, Warfare apparently explores the connections formed between soldiers. Connor reflected on portraying these bonds, aiming for authenticity. “We were just trying to portray exactly what happened,” he told Attitude. “The fact there are these moments of tenderness, moments of love between these guys is really beautiful.”

He found this aspect particularly powerful because it reflects reality. “It’s even more beautiful in the sense that it’s true,” Connor added. This commitment to truth fostered a genuine connection off-screen too. “It was a joy to be able to do it. And we developed a real love for one another.”
If you’re keen to see this different side of Kit Connor exploring complex male relationships under pressure, the good news is you can. Warfare landed in Australian cinemas on April 17th, following its international premieres, and it’s already picking up positive reviews from critics. Definitely time to check it out.
