K-Pop’s First Openly LGBTQIA+ Group Lioness Has Released “It’s Ok To Be Me”

Lioness is a K-pop boy group that debuted on November 2, 2021 and features four main members: Damjun, Foxman, Kanghan and Lee Malrang, reports Kprofiles. Lioness prides itself on being the first and only openly gay K-pop group in the industry.

On Friday, December 16, the group released a new song It’s Ok To Be Me which is an anthem celebrating diversity and the LGBTQIA+ community.

Lioness hope to tell the stories of LGBTQIA+ communities, such as coming out and same-sex marriage. Through K-pop music, the group want to help change the mindsets of fans and wider Korean society.

When the group debuted, they reported feeling tentative about being openly gay. At first, only one member showed their face which was Damjun, but in this video and on their Instagram recently, the member who goes by Foxman has had his face showing.

Furthermore, the It’s Ok To Be Me music video doubled as an opportunity for member Kanghan to unveil his drag queen identity Rooya.
