Jamie Dornan Vs Charlie Hunnam: Who Would’ve Been The Hotter Christian Grey?
“I’m not nearly as rich as I would’ve been,” Charlie Hunnam joked about dropping out of the Fifty Shades franchise. The actor, known for his role in Sons Of Anarchy, and the original UK version of Queer As Folk, was cast as Christian Grey in 2013 alongside Dakota Johnson, but had to withdraw from the role because of scheduling conflicts.
Hunnam is quoted in Buzzfeed saying it was, “The most emotionally destructive and difficult thing I’ve ever had to deal with professionally.” He called it “the worst professional experience of my life” and said he had panic attacks over the decision.
Jamie Dornan stepped in and the rest is history. The Fifty Shades trilogy raked in over $1 billion at the box office. Critics panned the films, but fans couldn’t get enough of the steamy romance between Christian and Anastasia.
Hunnam hasn’t seen the movies yet, but not on purpose. “I want to see it. I’ve been waiting!” he told TMZ. Meanwhile, Dornan has been open about how the role damaged his reputation as a serious actor.
In the end, both men have moved on to other projects, but it’s hard not to wonder what could have been if Hunnam had stuck with the role. Would the chemistry between him and Johnson have been just as electric?
We will never know, but one thing’s for sure: the Fifty Shades phenomenon isn’t going away anytime soon. The books and movies have sparked countless conversations about love, sex, and power dynamics in relationships.
