It’s Official: This Will Be The Gayest “Doctor Who” Era Ever!
In an exciting announcement for Doctor Who fans, it has been revealed that Jonathan Groff will be a guest star in the upcoming season of the beloved sci-fi series. Groff, best known for his roles in Hamilton and Mindhunter, will be joining the cast alongside Ncuti Gatwa, who was announced as the 14th Doctor in May of last year, reports Out.

This new iteration of the Doctor is set to make history as the first gay Doctor, a fact that has been met with excitement and anticipation from fans around the world. When Gatwa was announced as the 14th Doctor he released a statement in which he said, “There aren’t quite the words to describe how I’m feeling. A mix of deeply honoured, beyond excited and of course a little bit scared. This role and show means so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care. I will endeavour my upmost to do the same,” reports BBC.
Teaser images from the set of the new season reveal that Groff will join the series and although his character is still unknown, it appears he will be alongside Gatwa in a Regency-era episode, which is a dream come true for Bridgerton and Pride And Prejudice fans alike.
In a statement, Groff says, “I am so thrilled to jump into the extraordinary mind of Russell T Davies [show runner] and watch the incredible Ncuti Gatwa soar in this iconic role,” reports Out.
Alongside Gatwa and Groff, other stars who have been announced for the upcoming season include Neil Patrick Harris, who will be playing a nefarious nemesis and “the greatest enemy the Doctor has ever faced”, and Yasmin Finney from the hit show Heartstopper.
With this star-studded lineup, it’s clear that the new season of Doctor Who is shaping up to be one of the queerest and most exciting of the time-travelling series ever.
