Instagram Blocks ‘Troye’ Searches, Says It’s Linked To Drug Sales
If you’re a Troye Sivan fan, you might be confused when searching for him on Instagram. Out magazine reports that the platform has blocked the search term “troye,” suggesting it’s “associated with the sale of drugs”.
Is Troye Sivan’s Name Linked to Drugs?
When you search for “troye” on Instagram, you now see a warning message instead of Sivan’s account. It says, “This may be associated with the sale of drugs.” There’s also a “get help” button that takes you to a substance abuse helpline.
But no one seems to know why “troye” is supposedly linked to drugs. The Out team checked Urban Dictionary and Google but couldn’t find any connection between the singer’s name and drug slang.
Is It Because of Poppers?
Sivan has talked about using poppers for his Rush single. But is that enough reason for Instagram to link his name to drug sales? It seems unlikely.
Thankfully, searching for Sivan’s full name, “Troye Sivan,” still directs users to the singer’s account. However, the question remains: why is Instagram making it more difficult for users to find the popular artist by blocking the search term “troye”?
