“House Of The Dragon” Star Fabien Frankel’s Crush On Co-Star Matt Smith
HBO’s prequel series House Of The Dragon takes a dive back into the dangerous, depraved and lusty world of Westeros. One new character who has stolen the hearts of fans is Ser Criston Cole played by Fabien Frankel.
In a recent Comic Con panel, Frankel admitted he was jealous that he didn’t get to make out with Matt Smith, who plays Daemon Targaryen, reports Out.
THE CHARACTER EVERYONE LOVES TO HATE (Spoilers)
This time around, the series focusses on the Targaryen family, based on George RR Martin’s Fire And Blood books. Frankel plays Ser Criston Cole, the Kingsguard knight who is sworn to Olivia Cooke’s character, Alicent Hightower.
Although strikingly good-looking, fans of the series quickly turned against Criston Cole as a character when he switched from being Rhaenyra’s protector to Alicent’s. Fabien Frankel couldn’t be further from the bitter Criston Cole, and his scenes with Matt Smith felt particularly spicy in context with Frankel’s interviews.
“I remember Matt saying, ‘Maybe they’re flirting, Criston and Daemon.’ It’s funny because I thought that in private but I didn’t want to say anything in case it felt controversial,” says Frankel to The Times. “Matt’s damn sexy in this show, he’s the sexiest I’ve ever seen him.”
There are few fans who enjoy Frankel’s character, beyond him being eye-candy, but there are some who ship Daemon and Criston Cole, which is shaping up to make a lot of sense after Fabien told a Comic Con panel that he was jealous that Milly Alcock got to make out with Matt Smith.
As for Matt Smith, best known for his roles in Dr Who and The Crown, he’s played gay twice, notably as historically significant gay men: Christopher Isherwood in Christopher And His Friends (2011), and Robert Mapplethorpe in Mapplethorpe (2018).
