Hot Boys And Charli XCX? Benito Skinner’s Gay College Series “Overcompensating” Drops Soon

Benito Skinner in Overcompensating (Prime Video)

Comedian Benito Skinner (also known as Benny Drama) will soon bring his queer humour to television screens in the new series Overcompensating. The first trailer shows Skinner playing a closeted jock in this college comedy coming to Prime Video this year.

Fans of Skinner’s viral TikTok videos will see him take on his first major TV role. He not only stars in the show but also created, wrote, and serves as executive producer. The trailer introduces us to his character Benny, a former football player and homecoming king who hides his true self at university.

The official description sets the tone: “College… come as you aren’t.”

The series follows Benny and his new friend Carmen (played by Wally Baram), a high school outsider keen to fit in at university. Together they deal with bad hookups, cheap alcohol, and fake IDs. The story looks at how people often hide their true selves while trying to find out who they really are.

Overcompensating brings together an exciting mix of actors. Alongside Skinner and Baram, the cast includes Mary Beth Barone from Black Mirror and Adam DiMarco who appeared in The White Lotus.

The series also features notable guest stars such as Connie Britton, Kyle MacLachlan, and Kaia Gerber. Other performers include Andrea Martin, Julia Shiplett, Tommy Do, Alexandra Beaton, Claire Qute, Elias Azimi, and Maddie Phillips.

Music Meets Comedy with Charli XCX

Perhaps the most talked-about moment in the trailer comes from pop star Charli XCX. The Brat singer appears in a surprise cameo that has fans excited. In her brief scene, she delivers a memorable line: “You think I fucking want to play Boom Clap in a fucking college… Are you joking?”

Charli’s involvement goes beyond this cameo. She serves as both executive music producer and executive producer for the series, bringing her unique style to the soundtrack.

Overcompensating premieres on the 15th of May on Prime Video. The series comes from A24 and Amazon MGM Studios, two companies known for quality productions.
