Harry Styles Kisses Nick Kroll And Allegedly Spits On Chris Pine… But Is It Just Great PR For A Mediocre Movie?

It feels like the Don’t Worry Darling movie has been at the forefront of the media’s attention for months. The cast includes Harry Styles, Florence Pugh, Chris Pine and Nick Kroll and is directed by Olivia Wilde.

What seems to be more interesting than the movie is the drama that hangs over the cast and their personal lives, reports The Cut.

I’M WORRIED DARLING

From the very start, Olivia Wilde’s second directorial project Don’t Worry Darling seemed to be clouded in rumours, conflicts and drama. Unpacking the series of events from the beginning, the project was first announced back in 2019 as an homage to female pleasure on film wrapped in the aesthetics of The Stepford Wives.

Shia LaBeouf was initially cast across from Florence Pugh by Olivia Wilde but was later replaced by Harry Styles due to apparent scheduling conflicts. LaBeouf was replaced by Harry Styles in 2020 and here’s where things get notably messier, reports Vulture.

Styles and Wilde begin dating with speculation that the pair may have been carrying on an affair while Wilde was with ex-husband Jason Sudeikis. Florence Pugh refuses to do promotional work for the film with many alleging she doesn’t get along with Wilde. These rumours aren’t helped with the release of a tape from Shia LaBeouf showing Wilde contradicting statements she made about Shia previously. At the recent Venice Film Festival, the cast are shown to be notably separated and a video online went viral with many speculating it shows Harry Styles spitting on Chris Pine.

This drama goes deeper, but the point being that Don’t Worry Darling faces critical reviews that claim it doesn’t live up to the mountain of hype that surrounded it pre-release. The Venice Film Festival might be a masterclass for how to get people talking. The main cast only posed for one photo together and were separated by other cast members, Styles and Wilde (who are reportedly still an item) sat separately with Chris Pine between them and Harry Styles can be seen kissing Nick Kroll.

Critics are not looking fondly at this film with The Guardian going as far to say, “It is a movie marooned in a desert of unoriginality – and the desert doesn’t bloom.” If there’s one thing to finish off by saying, it’s that we will most likely be watching Don’t Worry Darling come October. The reason? Because, let’s be honest, this movie has been too hyped for too long and the chaos was successful in piquing our collective interest.
