Streaming Favourites Unite in Gothic Horror Tale
The film transports viewers to Medieval England in 1348, focusing on Lansley Abbey, a stone monastery in Yorkshire. Ten monks live there following strict routines and devotion until their peace shatters with the arrival of a messenger bearing troubling news and a mysterious illness.
According to Deadline, a dangerous plague spreads through the land, initially causing hemorrhagic fever before turning victims into “revenants” – undead beings that threaten to overrun the monastery’s walls.

As the contagion closes in, the monks face a profound moral conflict. Some believe they must care for the sick while others want to protect centuries of knowledge stored within the abbey.
“As death is fully unleashed, so too is the brothers’ capacity for extraordinary acts of altruism and ruthless betrayal, forcing them to confront the ultimate question: What does it mean to be human?” reveals the official description.

Award-Winning Director at the Helm
Rapture marks the debut film from Jordan Tannahill, a Governor General’s Literary Award-winning playwright and director. In 2019, CBC Arts named him among 69 LGBTQIA+ Canadians who shaped the country’s history and culture.
HanWay Films CEO Gabrielle Stewart expressed enthusiasm about the project: “We have all been blown away by the vision Jordan has for Rapture. It is rare to have such an atmospheric and terrifying zombie horror film that inhabits such an authentic historical world, with complex characters grappling with the biggest moral dilemmas. It is no wonder he has already attracted such great casting in Will, Kit and Manu with more to come, backed by top-tier producers.”
What Can Viewers Expect?
Will the film feature LGBTQIA+ storylines? We’re curious, too. While details remain scarce, the combination of these beloved actors in a cloistered setting certainly sparks intrigue.
Production begins in Hungary later this year, with more casting announcements expected soon.
