Gay Teen Rom-Com “Bonus Track” Drops New Trailer, Set To Premiere On National Coming Out Day
Josh O’Connor’s Screenwriting Debut
Josh O’Connor, the British actor known for his captivating role opposite Zendaya and Mike Faist in the tennis movie Challengers, as a lonely gay farmer in God’s Country, and his portrayal of a young Prince Charles in The Crown, has added screenwriter to his impressive resume. O’Connor co-wrote the script for Bonus Track with Mike Gilbert, and the film marks Julia Jackman’s directorial debut.
Bonus Track, a heartwarming gay teen romantic comedy, first premiered in the UK in June 2024 after its successful screening at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2023. Set in a small UK town in 2006, the film follows the unlikely love story of two teenage boys as they prepare for a talent show.
Charming Performances by Rising Stars Joe Anders and Samuel Small
George, played by Joe Anders, is a struggling final-year student who dreams of becoming a famous musician. His talent goes unrecognised until he meets Max, played by Samuel Small, whose rock star parents provide him with the knowledge to help George prepare for the talent show.
Critics have compared the film’s charm to the classic romcom Love, Actually, praising Anders and Small’s performances. Screen Daily described their acting as “charming” and noted the movie’s “largely positive depiction of adolescent homosexuality”.
The movie is set to make its US debut on National Coming Out Day, October 11, after being acquired for distribution by Sunrise Films. In the meantime, fans can enjoy the newly released trailer and anticipate this delightful coming-of-age rom-com.
