Gay Republican Who Voted Against Gay Rights And Was Jailed For Fraud, Set Free By Trump

Former US Republican Congressman George Santos is set to be released from jail. President Donald Trump announced he is commuting the seven-year sentence for the politician, who was jailed after pleading guilty to charges of fraud and identity theft earlier this year.

A federal judge had sentenced the New York Republican in April following his guilty plea, which included charges for deceiving donors and stealing identities to fund his election campaign.

Trump claims Santos was ‘horribly mistreated’.

The announcement came via Donald Trump’s Truth Social platform, where he argued that Santos had been dealt with too harshly by the justice system.

“George Santos was somewhat of a ‘rogue,’ but there are many rogues throughout our country who aren’t forced to serve seven years in prison,” Trump wrote. “Therefore, I just signed a commutation, releasing George Santos from prison IMMEDIATELY. Good luck George, have a great life.”

The commutation follows a public appeal from Santos earlier in the week, where he praised the former president and pleaded for the chance “to return to my family, my friends, and my community.”

From OnlyFans to prison and back again.

Santos was elected to the US Congress in 2022 but was expelled after serving less than a year. He faced multiple federal charges related to the misuse of campaign funds. A US House Ethics Committee report accused Santos of using political donations for personal expenses, including Botox treatments, luxury products, and subscriptions to OnlyFans.

Last year, Santos pleaded guilty to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. Prosecutors noted his “unrestrained greed and voracious appetite for fame enabled him to exploit the very system by which we select our representatives.”

Remembering his anti-LGBTQIA+ record…

During his short time in office, Santos was known for supporting legislation targeting the LGBTQIA+ community. He publicly backed bills aimed at drag performances, a position many found hypocritical after reports surfaced that he had performed as a drag queen named Kitara Ravache while living in Brazil.
