Gay Days Orlando Puts The 2026 Event On Hold

Bad news for anyone planning a trip to Orlando next June. The team behind Gay Days Orlando has announced they are hitting the pause button for the 2026 event.

It is a blow for the calendar, especially since 2026 was set to mark the 35th anniversary of the celebration. For three decades, the event has seen thousands descend on the theme parks in red shirts, creating a sea of visibility in one of the world’s most famous tourist destinations.

Organisers cite sponsorship and hotel issues.

In a statement released to their email subscribers and social media channels, the organisers explained that the decision was not made lightly. They pointed to a “perfect storm” of logistical and financial hurdles that made the 2026 event unviable.

Specifically, they mentioned changes to their host hotel agreement and the loss of key sponsorship support. They also noted “broader challenges currently impacting LGBTQIA+ events nationwide” as a contributing factor.

This is a pause, not an ending.

While the news is disappointing, the organisers were keen to stress that this is not the end of the road for Gay Days. The goal is to use this time to regroup and secure the future of the event.

“This is a pause — not an ending,” the organisers stated. “For more than 30 years, GayDays has been built by and for our community. Our focus now is on reimagining the future and returning with a stronger, more sustainable event.”

It started in 1991 as a simple day out with friends wearing red to identify each other and grew into a massive economic driver for the city, attracting over 150,000 attendees at its peak.

What does this mean for 2027?

There is no confirmed date for a return yet, but the team promised to share updates in the coming months as they “shape the next chapter together.”

For now, if you had booked travel specifically for the first week of June 2026, you might need to look at your cancellation policies. We will keep you posted as soon as we hear more about the future of the red shirt tradition.
