For Someone Who Looks So Good Filming Them, Henry Cavill Doesn’t Like Doing “Those” Scenes

In a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, actor Henry Cavill expressed his candid views on sex scenes in media. He spoke specifically about not liking their predominance in film and television saying: “I think sometimes they’re overused these days.”

Nobody stress! He’s not gonna stop doing the sex scenes

Cavill is known for his roles in blockbuster films such as Man Of Steel, Justice League and for The Witcher series. The latter actually involves quite a few steamy scenes for the hunky actor and has provided him with a healthy base of loyal fans.

Speaking to Josh Horowitz on his podcast, Cavill says some sex scenes are moot and don’t add to the drama or plot. “I don’t understand them. I’m not a fan,” he admitted, setting the tone for a thought-provoking conversation.

Despite his initial rejection of their premise, he acknowledges that they can serve a purpose in storytelling but are often overused and gratuitous. “There are circumstances where a sex scene actually is beneficial to a movie, rather than just the audience,” Cavill reflected. “But I think sometimes they’re overused these days.”

An example of a smart inclusion of sex in film is when Cavill’s character in The Witcher meets his love interest Yennefer (played by Anya Chalotra) at an orgy. The bacchanal wasn’t meant to be hot – it was designed to show the hedonism of Yennefer’s personality and her reckless use of magic to enchant people into losing their inhibitions.

He emphasises the importance of authenticity and purpose in depicting intimate moments on screen. “It’s when you have a sense where you’re going, ‘Is this really necessary or is it just people with less clothing on?’ And that’s when you start to get more uncomfortable and you’re thinking, ‘There’s not a performance here.’ Most of the time, the human imagination is going to trump [doing sex scenes],” he says.

“So I think that it can be a little bit of a cop out if a TV show or a movie is filled with gyrating bodies. What is this doing for us?” So, owing that there’s a purpose behind doing a sex scene, Cavill will gladly shed his clothes and get spicy if it moves the plot. We should hope he gets into doing French cinéma vérité.
