Since breaking out into the music industry, Lil Nas X has made us fall more and more in love with him every day. From his catchy tunes to his occasionally controversial performances, Lil Nas now writes another letter to his younger with an earnest message of hope and perseverance.

On Twitter, the 22 year-old rapper announced that his latest single Industry Baby will drop Friday, July 23 which features fellow rapper Jack Harlow. Accompanying the announcement is an earnest letter titled Dear 20 year old Montero. The note is an insight into the personal hurdles that Lil Nas has overcome and is an encouragement of his progress.

In the letter, Lil Nas writes about his past feelings of inadequacy saying, “I wrote a song for us. I know you feel like it’s all downhill from here. I know your sexuality has made you feel like an outcast amongst your peers. I know going from having the biggest song in the world to being trapped in your apartment is weighing heavy on you.”

“But I need you to keep going. I need you to realise you have the opportunity to be the person that you needed growing up,” continued Lil Nas.

This is not the first time Lil Nas has opened up candidly about his past, or the first time he has written a letter to his younger self. In a post announcing his previous hit, Call Me By Your Name (Montero) Nas wrote, “Dear 14-year-old Montero, I wrote a song with our name in it. It’s about a guy I met last summer. I know we promised to never come out publicly, I know we promised to never be ‘that’ type of gay person, I know we promised to die with the secret, but this will open doors for many other queer people to simply exist.”

If writing a memoir-style note to his younger self is a trend for Lil Nas X’s song releases, then there are definitely no complaints from his fans. Followers of the singer flooded his replies on Twitter with messages of support, many claiming that Lil Nas helped them feel confident and seen.
