Following the death of athlete, activist and ambassador Simon Dunn, a memorial service will be held at Marrickville Town Hall on Friday, February 10. The doors will be open to registered guests from midday for a 1pm service.

Organised by Simon’s team at Ruby Rose Management, the service requires those who wish to attend to register to ensure the venue capacity can hold everyone. Alternatively, if you are unable to attend in person, you can register to stream the service. Register for attendance or live streaming here.

Simon Dunn was a beloved and respected member of the LGBTQIA+ and sporting community. His advocacy work extended beyond what was expected and he never failed to be the voice for marginalised groups. Now, Simon’s close friends and loved ones would love for the community that he loved so much to have the chance to say goodbye.

Brendan Beavan, Simon Dunn’s manager, reaches out on behalf of Simon’s family and says: “I have never had the opportunity to be in the presence of a person to have such an impact in such a wide and diverse community from all over the globe and for that person still be so down to earth. Speaking on behalf of the family, we appreciate everyone’s outpouring of love and affection at this time. We now invite the world to join us to Celebrate the life of Simon Dunn.”

Following the service, there will be a celebration of life for Simon at Universal (Sydney, 85-91 Oxford St, Darlinghurst NSW 2010) downstairs from 2.30pm and upstairs from 5pm – the night will be hosted by Simon’s close friend and Oxford Street legend Penny Tration.

A crowd-funding page has also been set up to assist in the cost of the funeral and celebration of life memorial. Additional proceeds will also be donated to the charities that Simon worked closely with – The Bobby Goldsmith foundation (BGF), Give Out Day Australia, Pride in Sport and the Terrence Higgins Trust. “Everyone is welcome to talk and tell us about the time you spent with Simon, or even what an effect he had on your life,” says Beavan. “Lets recognise what Simon did for our community and give him the send off he deserves.”

For those who wish to attend the memorial at Marrickville Town Hall, be sure to register.
