Calling All Musical Theatre Fans! Club Broadway Brings Show Tunes To A Rave Near You!
EVENT: Club Broadway | TICKETS
A pivotal experience for a handful of young queer folks is realising their love for musical theatre. The arts is a safe haven for LGBTQIA+ youth and musical theatre is often the first introduction to camp many of us get. Club Broadway recognises that magic and is bringing it to Sydney and Melbourne with events catered exclusively to the lovers of showtunes.
Tickets for the Sydney event on Saturday, May 20 at Gingers sold out already so a second show is being put on Friday, May 26 in the basement of the Imperial in Erskineville. Melbourne will see Club Broadway on Sunday, June 11 at Sircuit in Fitzroy.
Get prepared for a Wicked night – Rent was due and they came ready to play
There are many of us who love a rave and can get down to a club mix, but what about our brothers and sisters and siblings who wish they could boogie to something a little more theatre-y? Broadway/showtunes nights have been spreading through the London and New York night scene and Australia doesn’t want to miss our chance to jump on the bandwagon; cue Club Broadway.
DJ Dan Murphy is the Sydney-based performer who saw this niche and pulled the trigger on creating Club Broadway. The events in both Sydney and Melbourne are truly geared for lovers of musical theatre as the original versions of iconic showtunes songs will play (no club mixes) with special live performances promised. “This’ll be a dream come true for anyone who loves a showtune,” says Dan. “You’ll feel right at home singing and dancing along to the best songs from the musicals. All ages (18+), sexual orientations and singing / dancing abilities welcome!”
Sydney’s first musical romp will be hosted by drag queen Vybe who will perform a special number on May 20. If you missed grabbing tickets, fear not! The second event will happen almost a week after on May 26 from 8pm onwards featuring a live performance from singer Jacqui Dark.
Melbournians get their chance to belt to the classics on June 11 from 5pm to 9pm with performers to be announced soon.
Tickets for Sydney’s second event and the Melbourne show are available here.
