How Come Caitlyn Jenner Is Friends With Donald Trump And Elon Musk Considering They’re So Anti-Trans?
Donald Trump’s swearing-in as the 47th president of the United States has put Caitlyn Jenner, a well-known transgender celebrity, in the spotlight. Why? Because of her ongoing backing for Trump.
Caitlyn Jenner mocked for continued support of Trump: 'He literally announced that you don't exist' https://t.co/nTPPj4W9k7

“He literally announced that you don’t exist today”
Trump’s inauguration speech took aim at transgender and other marginalised groups. He signed executive orders, including one that scrapped gender identity guidance. Trump stated it would be government policy “that there are only two genders, male and female”.
Despite this, Jenner expressed her joy at Trump’s inauguration. She posted that she was “just as happy, actually more happy, than the first time, to be celebrating the inauguration of President Trump”.

This stance didn’t sit well with many people. They couldn’t grasp why Jenner would support someone who seemed to deny her existence. One social media user asked, “Were you in the front row for that? I don’t understand how you can support an office that is trying to re-alienate you from society?”
Jenner’s support for Trump didn’t stop there. On 20 January, she posted on X/Twitter: “Congratulations, Mr President. Thanks be to God.” This led to more criticism, with some accusing her of turning her back on her own community.
Trump’s executive order has been met with strong opposition from LGBTQIA+ activists and groups. Ricardo Martinez, executive director of GLAAD Law, called it a “direct attack on transgender Americans.” He added, “It is cruel and it is wrong.”
Why This Picture Is Strange
The image we have chosen to lead this story, from Caitlyn Jenner’s Instagram account, is curious. Jenner and Trump appear to be quite chummy. But also in the shot is Elon Musk, whose conflict with his own trans daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, has been widely reported. Musk said in an interview that “the woke mind virus” has “killed” his son. The tech billionaire also claimed that he was tricked into consenting for his “biological son” to go on puberty blockers.
Vivian has described her father as “desperate for attention and validation”. She also called him cruel and cold. “He’s very quick to anger. He is uncaring and narcissistic.” She also denied his claims that she is autistic. They are currently estranged and Musk’s attitude towards trans people remains hostile.
So we wonder why Caitlyn Jenner, Trump and Musk socialise.
What’s next?
We can’t help but wonder: How will this affect the LGBTQIA+ community? Will Jenner’s stance change in light of these events?
Martinez reminds us that, “A president’s powers are not limited. The constitution, federal courts and our democratic system serve as a bulwark against government overreach.”
