Bronze Avery’s Sizzling “Heatwave” Video: A Queer Anthem Featuring Zane Phillips
Bronze Avery, the multi-talented American pop artist, has just dropped the music video for Heatwave, the title track from his second studio album. Released on 13 June 2024, this electro-pop banger is set to be the ultimate queer anthem.
The steamy video stars the smoking-hot Zane Phillips (Fire Island) Avery’s love interest. It opens with the two lying on the floor on a sweltering day, with Avery seductively spelling out words on Phillips’ chiseled six-pack. After a passionate hookup, Avery ditches Phillips to go on a date, promising to see him next week.
Throughout the video, Avery navigates various flirty scenarios with a cast of attractive queer men, including Queer As Folk actor Fin Argus. However, the video keeps cutting back to the scorching Phillips, eagerly awaiting Avery’s return.
“Ever since I’ve known him he’s always been extremely kind,” Avery says about Phillips in an interview with Rolling Stones. “He absolutely shreds on the dancefloor, though he can be a bit shy when it comes to karaoke. You could catch us both at Stud, sometimes twice a week perfecting our steps.”
Avery self-directed the nostalgia-drenched video to evoke the warmth of his Florida upbringing. His goal was to inspire viewers to dance till they’re drenched in sweat, kiss their crush, and let go of their inhibitions.
“I want people to feel the urge to dance until they’re drenched in sweat,” Avery said. “I want them to gather the courage to kiss their crush, raise a glass with their friends, and laugh if it spills. I want them to forget their inhibitions, dance like everyone is watching, and put on an epic performance.”
Heatwave the album, out now, is a collection of bright, uptempo electro-pop tracks reflecting Avery’s experiences as a self-described “Black, queer, multi-faceted artist in pop music.” With this joyous, sweat-soaked summer romp of a video featuring the irresistible Zane Phillips, Bronze Avery is ready to make his mark as a queer icon.
