On April 13, 2024, a shocking attack unfolded at the Westfield shopping center in Bondi Junction, Sydney.

Joel Cauchi, the 40-year-old man responsible for the knife attacks that left six people dead, led a secret life as a male escort, catering to both women and men, it has been revealed. The discovery of Cauchi’s secret life has raised serious questions. Police are now looking into whether he purposely went after women during the stabbing rampage.

Ideology Or Insanity?

Cauchi’s now-deleted online profile advertised his services, describing himself as “an athletic, good-looking 39-year-old guy,” offering various “closed-door services”. His presence on multiple escort websites, including Australia Cracker, Empire Escorts, and Escorts Australia has come to light, troubling the discourse around his crimes.

Speculation surrounds Cauchi’s attack being ideologically motivated with a faction online attributing the stabbings to misogyny. New South Wales police commissioner Karen Webb confirmed that the focus on female victims is a significant line of inquiry. CCTV footage appears to show Cauchi actively targeting women while avoiding men during the attack.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed concern over the gender breakdown of victims and assured that all aspects of the investigation will be thoroughly examined.

Despite being known to Queensland police for his history of mental ill-health, Cauchi had not been arrested or charged with any offences. However, his social media activity revealed a concerning preoccupation with weapons, including posts seeking connections with gun enthusiasts.

Cauchi’s family has condemned his actions as “truly horrific” and acknowledged his long-standing battle with mental health problems. They expressed their devastation and offered condolences to the victims and their families.
