Ben Aldridge Would Make A Very Fine George Michael
In an interview with Attitude, Ben Aldridge has expressed a desire to portray the late musical icon George Michael in a biopic. “I would love to do a biopic about George Michael. Because of his music and because I sing and would love to sing that, and also because I think there’s a really, really interesting story in there,” he says.
HE’S GOT THE ACTING CHOPS FOR SURE
The British actor is best known for his roles in series such as Fleabag and Pennyworth. Aldridge identifies as gay and in recent projects he’s signed on for he has had the opportunity to play roles designed for LGBTQIA+ men.
His biggest projects of late include M Night Shyamalan’s Knock At The Cabin where Aldridge plays opposite Jonathan Groff, and also his supporting role in Spoiler Alert where he plays opposite The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons. Both roles have been received with critical success.
Aldridge mentions in his interview that he is a huge fan of George Michael’s music. “There was a lot of drama in his life but also there’s a lot of hidden life as well, and that could be a brilliant film,” he says. The actor’s interest in the role comes on the heels of recent news that fellow actor Theo James (most recently seen in The White Lotus season two) and Queen frontman Adam Lambert also want the opportunity to helm the role, reports Attitude. There was a little contention when James mentioned he wanted the role as Lambert believed a gay icon should be honoured on-screen by a fellow member of the LGBTQIA+ community.
All this is purely hypothetical of course considering George Michael’s estate shot down any rumours of there being a biopic anytime soon. At least when the time comes, there will be a line of talented actors and singers prepared to throw their hats in the ring.
