A Sunday Evening Shattered
San Antonio Police Department officers found Jonathan Joss Gonzales near the roadway on Dorsey Drive around 7 p.m. Sunday after reports of a shooting. Authorities attempted life-saving measures, but Joss was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police arrested Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, 56, on a murder charge. While authorities stated their investigation currently shows no evidence the murder was related to Joss’ sexual orientation, his husband provides a contrasting account.
“He Saved My Life” A Husband’s Harrowing Account
Tristan Kern de Gonzales shared his experience on social media, detailing the ongoing harassment the couple faced at their former home. “Throughout that time we were harassed regularly by individuals who made it clear they did not accept our relationship,” Kern de Gonzales wrote. “Much of the harassment was openly homophobic.” He added they had reported multiple threats to law enforcement that their home would be burned down, which it later was, with nothing done.
On Sunday, while checking mail at the site of their former home, they found their dog’s skull and harness displayed. “We began yelling and crying in response to the pain of what we saw,” Kern de Gonzales shared.
He alleges a man then approached them, “yelling violent homophobic slurs at us. He then raised a gun from his lap and fired.” According to Kern de Gonzales, “Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving… When the man fired, Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life.”
“Jonathan is my husband,” Kern de Gonzales continued. “He gave me more love in our time together than most people ever get… He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other.”

A Recognisable Voice
Joss voiced John Redcorn in King Of The Hill from its second to 13th season and was expected in the show’s Hulu revival. His credits also include Ken Hotate in Parks And Recreation, roles in Tulsa King, the 2016 The Magnificent Seven remake, and the game Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.
This tragedy follows previous hardships. The couple’s San Antonio home was destroyed in a fire in January, killing three of their dogs. Kern de Gonzales stated they had previously reported threats from neighbours about destroying the house.
The investigation is ongoing. Tristan Kern de Gonzales has vowed to “protect Jonathan’s legacy and honouring the life we built together.”
