The wait is nearly over for the highly-anticipated BBC drama Mr Loverman, as the network has finally revealed its premiere date. The eight-part series, based on Bernardine Evaristo’s 2013 best-selling novel, boasts an impressive cast of familiar faces, including Lennie James from Walking Dead and Sharon D Clarke from Death In Paradise.

Mr Loverman is set to captivate audiences with its compelling story of Barrington Jedidiah Walker, played by James. Known as Barry to his friends, this charismatic 74-year-old Antiguan-born Hackney resident is famous for his dapper style and love of retro suits. However, beneath the surface, Barry harbors a secret that threatens to unravel his 50-year marriage to his wife, Carmel, portrayed by Clarke.

While Carmel suspects Barry of cheating on her with other women, the truth is far more complex. Barry is engaged in a passionate affair with his best friend and soulmate, Morris, played by Ariyon Bakare from His Dark Materials. As Barry faces the final chapter of his life, he must make difficult choices that will force his entire family to question their futures.

The series also features a talented supporting cast, including Tamara Lawrance from Time and Sharlene Whyte from Small Axe as Barry and Carmel’s daughters, Maxine and Donna. Tahj Miles, who recently departed from Death in Paradise, plays their grandson, Daniel.

Filming for Mr Loverman took place in London and Antigua

Mr Loverman wrapped filming earlier this year in April, with scenes shot in both London and Antigua. The series also features a cast of young actors portraying the main characters in their younger years, including Keenan Munn-Francis as a young Barrington, Gabin Kongolo as a young Morris, and Lauren Akosia as a young Carmel, known as Carmelita.

On 14th October, Mr Loverman premieres with two episodes on BBC One and iPlayer. This life-affirming story promises to be a must-watch for fans of compelling drama and LGBTQIA+ representation on screen.
