Gay Grooms To Wed On “Married At First Sight”
So-called “intruders” are set to shake up the “experiment” known as Married At First Sight this week.
A gay male couple will be introduced into the formulaic car-crash viewing of this abysmal televisual drivel. So, yay, for visibility and equality!
Meet 34-year-old Sam Stanton and 38-year-old Chris Robinson. The two men are ready to plunge into the deep end of the high-stakes, but low-ethical-value dating show as the fourth same-sex couple in the history of the franchise.
Personal trainers find a match
The show’s “experts” seem to have a specific type in mind for this pairing. Sam is an Adelaide-based gym owner and model who runs Studio 360. He is looking for a partner who is fit and emotionally mature. Chris hails from Sydney and operates a personal training business called Body Skin Soul in Redfern. He also manages a farm in regional New South Wales. Both men share a professional background in the fitness industry and a desire for a masculine, reliable partner.
Breaking the same-sex streak
While the show has featured diverse couples before, the track record for longevity is famously thin. From the first grooms, Craig Roach and Andy John, in 2016 to the more recent pairing of Michael Felix and Stephen Stewart in season 11, no same-sex union has made it to the final vows. Sam and Chris are stepping into the spotlight with the hope of being the first couple to go the distance.
From rural roots to the altar!
Chris came out at age 18 in a rural community and describes resilience as second nature. He wants a partner who can enjoy a night out but also get muddy on the land. Sam is motivated by the long and loving marriage of his parents and seeks a partner who can belt out Taylor Swift tunes just as easily as they can handle a campfire.
Can these two fitness professionals find a rhythm that lasts beyond the honeymoon? We will watch as they navigate the pressure of the experiment starting Tuesday, 24 February.
